Embrace being wrong.
Far too often we close ourselves off due to trying to be right.
“We’ve always done it this way”.
“We tried this before. It didn’t work”.
“I know about this already”.
No one wants to be wrong. In fact, on the current job market it can seem like being right all the time is rewarded. Admitting that you don’t know something or admitting your mistakes can be seen as a sign of weakness.
The truth is - your best bet for growth, acceptance and respect is a position as student. No matter what position you are, no matter where you are, someone who’s willing to learn and grow will always be respected. Someone who’s always listening before talking. Someone who takes responsibility for their decisions. Someone who truly speaks about what they know. Someone who embraces their strengths and fully admits to their weaknesses.
Being wrong is not negative. Being wrong is an opportunity to learn. If we look at it from that perspective, encourage it, and perhaps even help develop a culture that embraces it - great change can occur.
