#everydaycreativebattle 5/365 - Stop Consuming. Start creating
I get the irony. I do.
It’s a bit of a sickness - those who choose to educate themselves to break out of the “daily grind” routine and learn something new, sometimes get stuck in the land of consumption. Stuck in a place where you’re “looking to learn as much as possible” on a single subject. The learning becomes nothing more than just another distraction, another reason to hide. Another reason not to actually do the thing you want to do.
I’ve been caught in that cycle - I’ve purchased, read and listened to so many books to “inspire myself” all the while using that learning phase as an excuse to NOT do the things I wanted to do. I had to consciously get out of it and limit my learning phases to specific times. It works. Sometimes. I still fall back into those phases - but, at least I’m aware of them. I constantly have to remind myself that my goal is to create, not to consume. And that little reminder usually does the trick and lets me get back to the meaningful and creative work.
Audit yourself from time to time - sometimes it makes sense to stop consuming, or at least diminish that consumption to a manageable level. If you want to create great stuff - go out and create great stuff.
This series of content is a small experiment. I pledged to create a piece of content on my site for the next 365 days. You can read the opening post here. The posts aren’t limited to thoughts or ideas, they’re really just a way for me to create original content. If you got any feedback/questions, please reach out. Thanks for looking.
